Ms. Irene Mukalo holds a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from Kenyatta University and a Master of Education for Sustainable Development from London South Bank University. She is a conflict and natural resource management and governance expert. She has been involved in developing natural resource management frameworks and strengthening community-based institutions for improved natural resource use and climate change governance.
She is also a trainer with over 10 years of practical experience in training a cross-section of groups including adults, women, and youths taking cognizance of their diverse needs, interests, and abilities. Over the years, Irene has promoted multi-stakeholder approaches to NRM; building the capacity of diverse organizations including Water Resource User Associations, Beach Management Units, Community Forest Associations, CBOs, and Civil Society Organizations to influence policies, diversify livelihoods and manage their resources suitability
She has hands-on experience in conceptualizing and applying rights-based approaches to development and advocacy; community participation and the application of international instruments and laws in the management of natural resources and improving communities’ livelihoods. She is currently the Head of Programs at Resource Conflict Resolution (RECONCILE)
