Mr. Oyugi is a Lawyer by profession and holds a Diploma in NGO Management as well. He is a Human Rights Defender who has championed human rights, good governance, and democracy for over 16 years. This has been made possible by his attributes of great interpersonal and grassroots mobilization skills which are unparalleled. His interest in human rights advocacy was shaped by the pre and post-election violence witnessed in Kenya due to the 2007 hotly contested elections. The politically sponsored inter-ethnic violence led to human rights abuses of magnitude proportions.
He is a member of Nakuru County Forum for Community Paralegals where they receive, document, and analyze cases with a view of; helping settle the dispute through AJS or referring the case to a pro-bono lawyer. He also has a close working relationship with the following organizations: Egerton’s Faculty of Law Legal Aid Project (FOLLAP) where he volunteers to offer Legal Aid to the indigent members within Nakuru County; and HIV Free Generation (HFG) where he is the lead paralegal in charge of training the community on their rights as enshrined in both the domestic and international legal instruments.
