Dr. Miyawa holds a PhD in Law from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, Toronto; a Masters of Law and a Bachelor of Law, both from University of Nairobi. In addition, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma from Kenyan School of Law and has been an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya since 2011. He is an active member of the Law Society of Kenya as well. Dr. Miyawa is the Founder and Managing Partner at Miyawa Maxwel & Company Advocates. He is also a Managing Partner and co-founder of Okumu, Miyawa & Wamwara Advocates LLP. He specializes in: Constitutional, Human Rights, and Administrative Law Litigation.
By offering pro-bono services whenever need arises since the year 2007 to date, Dr. Miyawa is highly associated with community service. Over the years, he has filed, litigated, and won pro-bono cases besides acting as a volunteer advocate under Kituo cha Sheria. He has also worked at the Supreme Court of Kenya, 2012 – 2016, in the Office of the Chief Justice. His duties in this office revolved around: Legal drafting; Legal opinion writing; Legal research; Judgment editing, review and corrections. He is currently a lecturer at Kenya School of Law and Egerton University Law School.
Dr. Miyawa is also involved in Academic Publications which include: articles, book chapters, theses and dissertations. In addition, he has acted as: editor for Egerton University Law Journal and Kenya Law Reports Journal; peer reviewer and editor for McGill Journal of Sustainable Development; and Transnational Human Rights Review of Osgoode Hall Law School.
